Roanoke Star has helped to develop an incredible 7 All American soccer players. We have helped hundreds of players to go on and play at the college level as well as players who have gone on to play for their country and professionally in Europe and beyond.
Classic Soccer – this program is deigned as an ideal place for the aspiring soccer player to develop their skills. Players in the Classic program have access to the same programs and coaching as players in the Premier program and it is often used as a stepping-stone to the Premier program.
Indoor Soccer – every year in the winter months, Roanoke Star offers an accomplished indoor development program. This program is available to all players in the Roanoke area and beyond and is extremely popular. A nice twist to the program this year was the introduction of fusbal; a form of soccer played with a heavier ball that is designed to aid in developing supreme soccer skills. It is extremely popular in Brazil, where the idea originated and famous players such as Ronaldinho and Romario have grown up playing the game.
Strength and Conditioning – Roanoke Star teams all receive specialized Strength and Conditioning training throughout the year from a qualified fitness professional. The sessions are planned throughout the year and are done in conjunction with normal training sessions. Each team can expect to receive at least 3 sessions over the course of a season. Particular emphasis is placed on our girls program where a specially designed series of exercises are aimed at prevention of ACL injuries, a common problem in women’s sports.
Technical Training – All players at Roanoke Star are eligible to attend our extra skills training sessions each week. Ben Freakley, the Head Coach at VMI, is our specialized skills trainer and comes in once per week to run an advanced skills training clinic. This is a must do event on the calendar of many players at the club.
Goalkeeper Training – Goalkeepers are well taken care of at Roanoke Star with three goalkeeping coaches on staff. Sessions are run weekly with the goalkeepers as well as opportunities for individual sessions on an “as needed” basis.
