UPDATED INFORMATION ON GK TRAINING AND 3RD NIGHT TRAINING
Roanoke Star Goalkeeping Training
This year at Roanoke Star the club is hosting Goalkeeper Training for all goalkeepers (or players interested in the position). The training will concentrate on improving the individual ability of our goalkeepers physically, mentally, technically and tactically. John Faircloth, our goalkeeping Director will head up the program and will be assisted by college coaches and Roanoke Star staff.
All Goalkeeper training sessions will last for 40 minutes. The training is mandatory for the goalkeepers. If a player cannot attend the training due to a clash with their team training they are to miss the team training and attend Goalkeeper training. If a player cannot attend 3 nights per week at Roanoke, then they should attend one Goalkeeper session and one team training.

Roanoke Star Soccer Club – 3rd night training
This year at Roanoke Star the club is hosting a 3rd night of training for all players aged U14 and above. The training will concentrate on “functional” work where the aim is to give the players a better idea of the requirements of playing in different positions and improve the players individual ability which will help them move on to the next level. Roanoke Star has had unparalleled success in players graduating to play at the college level and we feel that the extra functional training will help better prepare our players for the college game. The training will also incorporate our strength and conditioning program that is aimed at giving the players an introduction to basic techniques concerning improving the physical aspect of the game.
All 3rd night training sessions will last for 1 hour. The training is not mandatory but is highly encouraged. Players who live over 45 minutes away from Roanoke are not expected to make the training. Roanoke Star will provide a training guideline for players who are unable to attend the 3rd night practice. It is expected that players work on their game at home anyway, but these guidelines will help by offering tips including how to organize “street soccer” and some fun ideas for working on your own.
