***Update Wednesday February 15th*** The list just keeps on getting bigger! Roanoke Star U18 Boys Premier defender Cameron Janney has committed to Concord University with the signing taking place this Friday February 17th at 11am.

Martin Smith, Assistant Director of Coaching, who oversee’s the Star Premier Program, was thrilled to hear the news "This is fantastic for Cameron. Although I only worked with Cameron for a season (Fall 2011 - Janney’s final season at Star), it was evident to me that he had what it takes to get to that next level. Cameron never let me or the team down, gave 110% effort in every game and was an integral part of our back four. He was also a bit of a character and always played with a smile". Smith went on to add "With Cameron committing to Concord and Kelli Kitchens committing to Shenandoah University, it also goes to show our Premier Program continues to develop quality players who have gone on to play for good college programs".

Roanoke Star Soccer Club is proud to announce our class of 2012 college signings. These players will not only be furthering their academic education, they will be competing for their respective colleges and universities on the soccer field. Congratulations to our graduating class! “We are very happy for our players, it just goes to show with hard work, determination and being a part of a great soccer environment you can accomplish great things in this sport and in the classroom.” –Toye Oshoniyi, Assistant Director of Coaching, U18 Boys Head Coach

Over on the girls side, four female Roanoke Star players also committed to colleges and universities, sending the amount of committments to 14. Heather Reynolds (Roanoke College), Kaylan Stanley (Lees Mcrae), Taylor Wiseman (Ferrum College) and Kelli Kitchens (Shenandoah University) will all be representing their new universities on the field.

It is also worth noting that our U18 Girls Elite team consists of mostly U17 players and all players on that team are currently in the process of officially visiting colleges or making decisions on what colleges to attend.

Director of Coaching, Graham Maclean was very proud of all the Star players and had this to say on the graduating class of 2012 – “The 2012 year has been very successful both on and off the field. We are extremely pleased that so many of our graduating class are moving on to play college soccer but we are also very proud of the number of players who will be attending great colleges and universities around the USA. To have at least 16 players go on to play college soccer is a hugely significant number and is testament to the quality work at Roanoke Star.”

Congratulations to all these players!

2012 College Committs

Boys

Cameron Janney
Concord University

                                 Sam Bernhard
     Oberlin College

Tyler Bullock

Liberty University

Michael Mecham

University of North Carolina Wilmington

Garrett Vannutt
Christopher Newport University

Cole Sinclair

Roanoke College

Johnny Curran

Emory and Henry

Alex Strain

Hampden Sydney

Ian Lovern

Marshall University

               Matt Guilliams

Concord University

                            Thomas Johnson

             Bluefield College

                      Ellison Heil

Muhlenberg College

Girls

Heather Reynolds
Roanoke College

Kaylan Stanley
Lees Mcrae

Kelli Kitchens
Shenandoah University

Taylor Wiseman
Ferrum College

The Jefferson Cup is one of the Premier youth soccer tournaments in the USA and is a fantastic venue for college coaches as only the best clubs and teams are in attendance.

ASL Triangle Friendlies “All Event Team”

Once again, Roanoke Star ASL teams provided a number of players who were chosen as “All Event Players” for the ASL weekend. Unfortunately the weekend was marred by poor weather so not all teams got to play all their games but our players still showed tremendously well and a total of 6 players were selected for the honor. The players chosen were:

Sarah Maurer – U14 Girls

Shannon Mitchell – U14 Girls (true U13 player)

Ariana Perez – U15 Girls

Laura Garbarini – U16 Girls

Kim Shaver – U17 Girls

Tricia Jessee – U17 Girls

Director of Coaching, Graham Maclean, had this to say about the accomplishment: “It is a huge individual honor for all the players selected and it reinforces our view that winning soccer games comes secondary to individual development. The players have worked very hard within the ASL program and fully deserve the accolades. I’m sure they are well aware that the performance of all their teammates was a huge contributory factor in them receiving these awards and we see the recognition not just for the individuals, but for the whole club, our partnership with CVU and the ASL program.”

Huge Congratulations to these girls! Keep up the good work!
